The PowerShots are Canon's compact or point & shoot camera line. The Canon PowerShots date back to July of 1996, when the PowerShot 600 was first introduced. Since then, the PowerShot line has broadened to become one of the most expansive in the industry, ranging from entry-level point & shoots to feature-rich models to delight enthusiasts.

While there's some crossover between the lines, here's how PowerShot model numbers relate to camera types:

A series: Entry-level PowerShot models
D series: Waterproof PowerShots
ELPH series: Canon PowerShot ELPHs are sleek pocket cameras
G series: The high end of the Canon PowerShot line; the latest of a long line of enthusiast cameras
S series: Compact models packing many of the features of current G-series PowerShots
SX series: Canon PowerShots with long zoom lenses
SD series: An older designation for compact models, last used in the 2010 model year
IS suffix: Designates A-series PowerShots with Image Stabilization (all other models except the D series have IS by default)
HS suffix: Seen across multiple lines, the HS suffix designates "High Sensitivity" PowerShots; particularly well-suited for low-light shooting

	Canon G5X 20.2 megapixel, Compact, 4.20x Zoom The Canon PowerShot G5X takes what made the G7X a solid compact camera and adds numerous new design and usability features. By adding an OLED electronic viewfinder, a front grip, a flash hot shoe, and more controls, the G5X is an enthusiast-oriented compact camera that provides solid, dependable performance in a well-designed camera body. While the G5X doesn't bring many new performance features to the table, it continues where the G7X left off and should prove to satisfy many experienced photographers looking for a fixed-lens compact camera. 	Canon G7X Mark II 20.2 megapixel, Compact, 4.20x Zoom With an impressive 20-megapixel 1"-type sensor, a versatile 24-100mm equivalent zoom lens, and a faster DIGIC 7 image processor, the refreshed Canon G7X II is a very good compact camera that delivers good images across a wide range of ISOs. The Canon G7X II aimed to address the performance-related shortcomings of the original, and it appears to have accomplished that goal for the most part. 	Canon G9X Mark II 20.2 megapixel, Compact, 3.00x Zoom The petite Canon G9X II takes what made the original a good pocket camera and adds a few upgrades and improvements along the way including a faster processor, better image quality and Bluetooth connectivity.
