Firmware Friday: New lens support and bug fixes for Leica SL (Typ 601); Ricoh Theta V gets fixes too

This week's Firmware Friday roundup is unusually short and sweet, bringing with it news of just four updates, three of them from Leica and one from Ricoh. And with not a lot to discuss for any of these updates, we're going to skip the usual formalities and just get down to what's new, instead.

Leica's updates are the most interesting of the group, simply because its release notes are more informative than those from Ricoh this time around. With firmware version 3.6 for the Leica SL (Typ 601), the company is promising better compatibility with existing and upcoming lenses from L-Mount Alliance partner companies, and especially lenses equipped with AF/MF or OIS mode switches on the lens barrel. Firmware version 1.2 for the VARIO-ELMARIT-SL 24-90 f/2.8-4 ASPH. lens and and firmware version 1.1 for the APO-VARIO-ELMARIT-SL 90-280 f/2.8-4 lens, meanwhile, both reduce aperture drive noise during zoom operation. As for Ricoh, firmware version 3.04.1 for the Ricoh Theta V provides no real information as to what's changed, with the release notes simply promising a "bug fix". If you're having problems with your Theta V, you may want to check the update and see whether it corrects them or not. You can install the update using the Ricoh Theta apps for Windows or Mac OS.
