Firmware Friday: Canon ships security fixes for 7 DSLRs; Fuji X-T3, Panasonic S1H updates too

Our regular Firmware Friday roundup returns once again this week bringing news of rather more updates than in recent weeks. Canon alone has shipped new firmware for seven DSLRs in the past week, and we also have news of mirrorless camera updates from both Fujifilm and Panasonic to discuss.

Let's get right down to what's new!

Canon EOS-1D C, EOS-1D X, EOS-1D X II, EOS 5DS, EOS 5DS R, EOS 5D III and EOS 5D IV

We'll kick things off this week with Canon. The company has new firmware for a total of seven different professional DSLRs, and in all seven cases the updates bring fixes for potential security exploits related to the Picture Transfer Protocol and the firmware update process itself. (And as a result, it's likely to close off avenues for installing third-party firmware updates, if that's important to you.)

The Canon 1DX II alone also receives three additional fixes, each for various Wi-Fi or wired network connectivity issues. And the EOS-1D C firmware version 1.4.2 update can't be installed by end users, so requires that the camera be returned to your local Canon office. (The update will be applied free of charge, but there may be shipping and handling costs.)

Fuji X-T3

Moving along to Fujifilm, firmware version 3.01 for the X-T3 mirrorless camera gets a fix for a problem which could potentially trigger a message warning you to "Turn off the camera and turn on again" if shooting photos too quickly in the S drive mode. You can download it here.

Panasonic S1H

And that just leaves the new firmware for Panasonic's Lumix S1H full-frame mirrorless camera. Here, the update isn't yet available, but the company has announced its development and is showing it publicly at the IBC2019 show in Amsterdam for the next few days. The update will enable 5.9K/29.97p raw and C4K/59.94p video to be recorded by an attached Atomos Ninja V monitor-recorder. Watch this space for more news once the update becomes available!
