Firmware Friday: Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro G2, Canon EF-S 18-135, Nikon B500 and Z6 / Z7 updates

This week's Firmware Friday roundup is a little larger than they've been lately, bringing news of three hardware updates and one new piece of software from three companies. If you're not shooting Blackmagic, Canon or Nikon gear, you can safely move along to another article now. (We'd suggest perusing some of the raft of recent announcements, including the Canon M6 II and 90D, Sony A6100 and A6600, and Panasonic S1H.)

Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro G2

Kicking things off this week with Blackmagic Design, the company's Blackmagic Camera Setup 6.5.1 app brings new firmware for the URSA Mini Pro G2. There's only one change listed in the release notes: Improved compatibility for embedded audio on SDI outputs. Download here for Windows, or here for Mac OS.

Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

Firmware version 2.0.0 for the Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens likewise brings just one change. Here, it's support for the new continuous panning drive mode of the just-launched EOS 90D DSLR. If you're planning on picking up the 90D and own the EF-S 18-135mm lens, you can find the new firmware here.

Nikon Coolpix B500 and N-Log 3D LUT for Z6 / Z7

Firmware version 1.4 for the Nikon Coolpix B500 bucks the trend with not just one but two changes. The lens warning displayed when the camera is turned on has been changed, and an issue has been resolved which could incorrectly cause file numbering to reset and a new file folder to be created. You can download this update here.

Nikon has also released a new download for Z6 and Z7 owners, the Nikon N-Log 3D LUT. Intended for use with Adobe Premiere Pro CC, Apple Final Cut Pro X and Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve 15, the look-up table can be used to convert Z6 or Z7 N-Log footage to Rec.709 instead.
