While my colleague Jeremy Gray recently spent time with Nikon's new high-performance, high-end "super camera," the Z9, I have recently begun field-testing one of its primary rivals, the Canon EOS R3. While these two cameras aren't necessarily apples-to-apples competitors,...

Firmware Friday enters the final month of the 2010s this week with news of camera updates from two companies -- Canon and Sony -- as well as updated software from Fujifilm. The bulk of the changes made are aimed at fixing bugs, but there are a few new features in the mix as well.
We'll kick things off...
This week's Firmware Friday roundup is very likely a record-breaker when it comes to interchangeable-lens cameras. Even without including overseas equivalents, we have 20 DSLR and mirrorless cameras on the list from Canon, Nikon and Panasonic, and 24 once Panasonic's overseas equivalents are added into the mix.
And as...
Enthusiast shooters looking for an interchangeable-lens camera from Canon have several new choices, all of which launched earlier this year. Among compact system cameras, the company's full-frame EOS RP and sub-frame EOS M6 Mark II offer a choice of sensor size versus...
Our regular Firmware Friday roundup this week is a little unusual in that most of the updates for which we have news aren't actually available just yet, although a few are already here and more will arrive in the coming days. In all, we have news of firmware updates for two cameras and one lens in the past seven...

If you're a fan not just of stargazing, but of recording the heavens for posterity as well, then Canon has some great news for you. (And it was officially revealed, perhaps rather fittingly, in the wee hours of last night.) After a lengthy absence from a digital camera niche that the company originally pioneered,...
We thought last week's Firmware Friday roundup was big, but this week it's a whole different ballgame, with a truly spectacular amount to discuss for folks shooting cameras from Blackmagic, Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, Panasonic and Ricoh. We've referred to really large roundups like this as being "mega" in the past,...
A couple of weeks ago, I published my first field test for the Canon EOS M6 Mark II. (Not already read it? I highly recommend starting there for a discussion of ergonomics and handling, lens selection, customizability and daytime image quality.) And now,...
As another weekend arrives, it's time once more for our regular weekly summary of all that's new in the world of camera firmware. And this week, our Firmware Friday roundup brings with it something pretty cool. Not only do we have news of a camera receiving some new features -- which we always like to see -- but...

This week's Firmware Friday roundup is rather bigger than they've been of late, bringing with it news of some interesting feature-enhancing updates for several mirrorless cameras from Canon, Fujifilm and Sony, as well as a bug fix for another Fuji camera. The models receiving new features span a gamut from the...

Recently, I posted my first field test for the Canon Rebel SL3, an EOS-series camera that, in an increasingly mirrorless world, proves Canon nevertheless still sees demand for DSLRs even at the entry-level end of the market. And now, I've followed up with...
From next month, there will be a new entry point to Canon's fledgling EOS M mirrorless camera lineup, and for the first time it will include 4K video. That news comes to us this morning thanks to the launch of the brand-new Canon EOS M200, a followup to 2017's M100. Compared to its...

Our regular Firmware Friday roundup returns once again this week bringing news of rather more updates than in recent weeks. Canon alone has shipped new firmware for seven DSLRs in the past week, and we also have news of mirrorless camera updates from both Fujifilm and Panasonic to discuss.
Let's get right down to...
For the second week running, our Firmware Friday roundup is a pretty short one, this time bringing with it news of just two updates from one company. (And both of them are pretty minor ones, too.)
The Canon EOS RP has received its version 1.2.0 update (download here), and the EOS R is now on version 1.3.0 (...
Tiny mirrorless cameras are everywhere these days, but that doesn't mean you have to ditch the mirror yourself if you want a compact, interchangeable-lens camera. For a third generation, the Canon SL3 aims to provide a reasonably generous advanced amateur...
If you've just bought a Canon EOS M50 mirrorless camera kit with 15-45mm lens and you're puzzled by a charger and battery pairing that don't quite seem to fit with each other, fear not. There's a very simple explanation, as the company yesterday revealed that it accidentally shipped the wrong charger in the package...
When I was asked to write this article about Canon lenses, and in particular the new RF line, I thought I should give an explanation of Canon's history with lenses, talk about what we believe customers are looking for in a lens today and how we went about developing the RF series and why. We value the input from our...
Are you ready for the step up from your smartphone to the versatility of an interchangeable-lens camera? If so, Canon would love for you to consider its EOS M50, and after reviewing the camera ourselves, we think it's well worth a look....
Family documentarians in need of a new Canon EF-mount camera will soon have another option to choose from, which its maker is calling the smallest and lightest EOS-series DSLR within the current lineup. The Canon SL3 is all but identical in size and weight to 2017's SL2, although it's just fractionally lighter, but...
After a brief hiatus last week, our regular Firmware Friday roundup returns today with news of updates for five cameras from Canon, Olympus and Panasonic, as well as a couple of upgraded software utilities for Fujifilm cameras. We've a fair bit to cover, so with no further ado, let's roll up our sleeves and get to...
